We work alongside Rwanda's most vulnerable communities — empowering girls through education, bringing clean water to rural villages, and building youth skills for a thriving tomorrow.
Urumuri — meaning "light" in Kinyarwanda — was founded in 2014 by a group of Rwandan educators, nurses, and community leaders who saw what was possible when communities were given the right tools and belief.
We operate across 6 districts in Rwanda: Musanze, Nyamasheke, Kayonza, Bugesera, Rwamagana, and Nyamagabe — partnering with local government, schools, and families to create lasting change from the ground up.
We are not a foreign organisation handing out aid. We are Rwandans, building Rwanda.
Keeping girls in school and closing the gender gap in learning
Building wells and water systems in underserved rural areas
Vocational training for youth aged 16–30 across Rwanda
Mobile clinics and health education in remote communities
Four focused areas. Thousands of lives changed. Every program is community-led, locally implemented, and independently evaluated.
Scholarships, mentorship and leadership training for girls from P4 through secondary school. We cover fees, books, uniforms and provide monthly counselling support.
Drilling boreholes, building rainwater harvesting systems, and training community water committees so clean water is sustained long after we leave.
6-month vocational programmes in carpentry, tailoring, digital skills and agribusiness — plus startup capital grants for graduates ready to launch.
Monthly mobile clinics bringing maternal health, nutrition screening, vaccination and mental health services to villages with no nearby health centre.
Every franc donated to Urumuri Foundation is tracked, reported and independently audited. We publish annual impact reports and financial statements openly — because accountability is a value, not a requirement.
Girls Who Lead Alumna · Musanze District
Amina is one of 4,800 girls supported by the Girls Who Lead Academy. She received a full secondary school scholarship, monthly counselling, and leadership training that saw her elected school prefect in her final year. Her mother, a subsistence farmer, says the change in her family's future is "beyond what I could have prayed for."
Kabarore village in Kayonza now has a borehole serving 340 households. Children arrive at school on time. Mothers saved 3 hours daily.
After 6 months in Iterambere Skills Hub, Jean-Pierre launched a furniture workshop in Nyamasheke employing 3 other youth.
Our mobile clinic has recorded 380 safe deliveries in villages with no maternity ward within 30km. Maternal mortality in target areas dropped 41%.
